PPE - reliable protection for workers

The abbreviation "PPE" is familiar to every employee of production enterprises. Personal protective equipment includes special clothing, footwear, head protection, hand protection, eye protection, and protection for other vital human organs.
Their purpose is to prevent or reduce workers' exposure to harmful and hazardous factors. For example, to protect the skin from contamination or the respiratory system from exposure to toxic substances.

Mandatory use of PPE at work is one of the commandments of labor safety. PPE is used when performing work that may result in injury or burns, as well as when substances hazardous to the worker’s health are used or stored.

If workers fail to use PPE or do so incorrectly, this may result in:

• occupational disease
• injuries and, in the worst cases, fatalities

An employer must provide each employee with collective and personal protective equipment and cleaning agents at their own expense. The issuance of PPE is a mandatory procedure for all working professions in various fields: painter, cook, plumber, crane operator, electrician, welder, etc.

If an employer fails to provide PPE to employees, an administrative fine will be imposed:

• For officials and entrepreneurs: 20 – 30 thousand rubles
• For legal entities: 130 – 150 thousand rubles

An employer must not only provide employees with the necessary PPE but also train them in how to use it correctly and monitor its use. This obligation is enshrined at the legislative level (Article 221 of the Labor Code of the Russian Federation). Training on the use of PPE must be conducted at least once every three years.

To organize training on the use (application) of PPE, SIKE has developed an electronic course "Personal Protective Equipment", which contains the basic safety requirements for PPE, the procedure for providing workers with PPE and cleaning agents, as well as theoretical aspects of the methods of wearing and using PPE.

The course covers the rules for the use and wearing of the main types of PPE that can be used in any industry:

• Protective face shields and screens
• Workwear
• Safety shoes
• PPE for hands

The course contains theoretical and testing parts.
The theoretical part of the course is presented in the form of interactive slides with diagrams and illustrations that simply demonstrate the information.

The presentation of information is linear and sequential, for convenience the course is divided into four sections, which a user can study in any order:
1. General information about production factors
2. Rules for providing workers with PPE and wash-off agents
3. PPE safety
4. Training in wearing and using PPE

The final section of the course, “Training on the Rules of Wearing and Using PPE,” introduces a user to the various types of PPE. By clicking on the corresponding tabs, a user will study each type of PPE:

• Design (construction) of PPE
• Purpose and conditions of use
• Classification (main sub-varieties and types)
• Rules of use (putting on and taking off) of PPE
• Care and storage requirements

You can consolidate the knowledge you have gained with the help of test assignments, which end each section of the course. The tasks are presented in various formats: matching, ranking, choosing one or more correct answers, etc.

At the end of the course, a user must pass a final test, which checks the quality of the material assimilation.
